Reclaiming Grassroots Democracy
This site was created in 2024 by party officers, and officers-elect, to reflect the legitimate officer election result from the February 2024 convention. That result was tampered with by a few individual current or former officers, who threw out more than half the votes. Read all about the scandal here.
The Secretary of State eventually interfered to back those responsible by declaring them “recognized.” We maintain that the Secretary of State is legally barred from interfering in party business. Unfortunately our attempts to overturn this were unsuccessful. We are not currently able to control statewide party resources or act as officers in partisan electoral matters. Candidates seeking PGP nomination should contact whoever is listed with the Oregon Secretary of State.
However, we still exercise our right as party members to organize freely, without centralized control. The Oregon Green Party Organizing Committee, a miscellaneous PAC, maintains this site for the use of party members interested in genuine grassroots movement-building.
May 5th Nominating Convention
Prior to the state’s interference, we held our first nominating convention of 2024 on Sunday, May 5 (online). This restored our modified-consensus process, with decisions made by those attending the meeting. It was not a stage-managed webinar like the February convention. We did not exclude interested candidates from participating, as happened in February 2024. This step was taken to try to preserve our party’s traditions and precedents.
